The Doors - The End |
] |
This is the end, beautiful friend This is the end, my only friend, the end Of our elaborate plans, the end Of everything that stands, the end The end
No safety or surprise The end I'll never look into your eyes again
Can you picture what we'll be So limitless and free Desperately in need of some stranger's hand In a desperate land
Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain And all the children are insane All the children are insane Waiting for the summer rain There's danger on the edge of town Ride the King's highway Weird scenes in the gold mine Ride the highway West, baby
C'mon baby, take a chance with us C'mon baby, take a chance with us C'mon baby, take a chance with us And meet me at the back of the blue bus
This is the end, beautiful friend This is the end, my only friend The end
It hurts to set you free But you'll never follow me
The end of laugher and soft lies The end of nights we tried to die
This is the end

Well, amused probably isn't the best word for it - it's really more of a "huh, who'da thunk it?" kind of thing:
Police make first online predator arrest of 2006
This kid graduated from the 'Ford the year after I did. Pretty popular, soccer player, and (by my estimation, at least) a good Mormon boy. After doing some very unnecessary research in the Utah Code, it seems like he's facing third-degree felony charges. And he'll be marked as a sex offender for the rest of his natural existence, meaning that when he moves to Hollywood he'll have to go door to door to tell everyone he's a pederast.
No word yet on if the creep can roll.

So, we went and saw Kerry and Leahy speak. Bernie Sanders was there, as well as the Democratic candidates for House and Governor in 2006. I met and spoke with both Kerry and Leahy for a minute. Pretty cool.

Is it worth it to drive 90 minutes in either direction to see Kerry, Leahy, Bernie Sanders, and a few other Dem folk speak tomorrow evening? They also ask you to make a "suggested donation" to the Vermont Democratic Party of $40, though I figure I could maybe get away with giving a bit less by claiming poor college student status.
Looking for some input.

The Band - The Shape I'm In [Live] |
] |
First Read.
It's the daily briefing memo prepared by NBC's domestic political department for NBC internally. It's published every Monday - Friday morning, and provides analysis of the day's political news and events. It also links to numerous articles in the day's newspapers related to the stories.
I read it basically every day as a nice digest of what's going on, thought some of you may enjoy it too.

Miers withdraws Supreme Court nomination.
Great. So rather than getting an unqualified potential moderate, Bush is going to drive far right and we'll end up with another Scalia.
Am I the only one hoping she'd get confirmed, simply as the lesser of two evils?

Bob Dylan - Isis [Live] |
] |
Every art or applied science and every systematic investigation, and similarly every action and choice, seem to aim at some good; the good, therefore, has been well defined as that at which all things aim. For three centuries, British leaders had operated from the assumption that, if Europe's resources were marshaled by a single dominant power, that country would then have the resources to challenge Great Britain's command of the seas, and thus threaten its independence. In Theseus, however, they had a king whose intelligence matched his power; and one of the chief features in his organization of the country was to abolish the council chambers and magistrates of the petty cities, and to merge them in the single council chamber and town hall of the present capital. At the same time through the division of labour inside these various branches there develop various divisions among the individuals cooperating in definite kinds of labour. We are headed for a difficult world, on that is not likely to fit any of our ideologies or simple theories.
